Bi-Steel specified for protective buildings at UK military base

Bi-Steel specified for protective buildings at UK military base

Bi-Steel is currently in use as the construction material for selected administrative buildings on one of the largest military bases in the UK.

New buildings on these security-sensitive sites now have to be designed to higher standards of integrity due to prevailing security concerns.  These new structures will be built entirely from Bi-Steel, the unique steel/concrete composite material from Corus, which was developed specifically to provide protection from explosive blast.

The decision to select Bi-Steel was taken based on the material’s proven blast resistant capabilities – Bi-Steel has been fully tested and meets the requirements of the UK and US Governments for protective structures. Speed of erection was another advantage, with the buildings being constructed significantly faster than would have been the case had reinforced concrete been specified.
