Fabrication

The ease with which panels can be connected to each other and to interfacing components is key to Bi-Steel's speed of construction.

Bi-Steel can be fabricated into modules in most standard steel fabrication facilities. Modules can be prepared into components as large as deemed feasible by the construction team. The overall size of a single module is typically limited by road transport regulations.  Therefore it is possible to deliver direct to site single Bi-Steel modules as large as 18 m by 4 m by 4 m.  Weight is not usually a significant transport criterion as the unfilled panels are relatively light.

Depending on reach and on-site crane availabilty it is recomended that the Bi-Steel modules are sized so that they can be erected by the cranage that will already be on-site. Modules are therefore typically limited to 12-16t. This corresponds to a 4 storey lift shaft with 2m internal dimensions. Alternatively, using a crane with a 4t capacity, Bi-Steel panels of 35m in height and 2m width can be lifted individually.

Depending on the project requirements it is sometimes more cost-effective to bolt individul panels together at ground level, either on the construction site or in a holding area and then errect the modules. In this way the panels with holes automatically pre drilled are delivered straight from the Bi-Steel facility with ancilliary steel items delivered from the steel fabrication facility.
