Corus Bi-Steel puts public security at the heart of IHT Awards
12 Dec 2006
Corus Bi-Steel has announced its joint sponsorship, together with the UK Government’s National Security Advice Centre (NSAC), of the 2007 IHT award for Security in the Public Realm.
At a time of continuing security threats, the protection of buildings, assets and people has never been higher on the UK agenda. The Institution of Highways & Transportation (IHT) award for Security in the Public Realm has therefore been created to recognise excellence in the development and application of effective and proportionate security systems within the public realm to counter established and evolving threats.
The IHT Awards seek to celebrate good practice and reward ingenuity in projects currently taking place in the highways and transportation sector across eight disciplines, including; Accessibility, Health & Safety at Work, Innovation, Technological Application, Effective Partnerships, Road Safety, Urban Design and this newly announced Security in the Public Realm category.
Alistair Haydock, IHT President comments: “Homeland security is an issue of prime concern in the current UK climate, and we are happy to welcome Corus and NSAC on board as sponsors of the award for Security in the Public Realm. Bringing personnel and asset protection into the 21st century, both organisations are leading the field in encouraging superior security and protection technologies.”
Dr Jurek Tolloczko, Corus Bi-Steel General Manager, comments: “With today’s society facing a range of security threats, protection against explosive blast has become a crucial requirement for many new and existing structures. Bi-Steel is pleased to be working with central Government to support this award which we believe recognises the need to develop ever more sophisticated protective security solutions that can be deployed during heightened times of security risk or installed as a permanent measure.”
Corus Bi-Steel designs, manufactures and installs protective structures and perimeter and stand-off protection solutions for security critical environments. A ‘protection through design’ approach delivers integrated security solutions that start at a building’s perimeter and go right to its heart, reducing the requirement to bolt on additional security. Bi-Steel’s steel/concrete composite panels are incredibly strong, easily and rapidly deployable, and can be used for entire structures or specific security and defence applications.
The deadline for entries to the IHT Awards 2007 is 31 January 2007. For further information on the eight award categories visit: www.awards.iht.org to download an electronic entry form.
