The Institution of Highways and Transportation Annual Awards celebrate innovation, excellence and achievement, recognising those companies and individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry during 2006. The IHT is the transport industry's leading trade organisation. With 10,000 members it is the voice of the industry on all matters relating to land-based transport systems and infrastructure. The Annual Awards cover several categories ranging over design, technical innovation, safety and partnering. This year a new Award category was created, 'Security in the Public Realm, sponsored by Corus Bi-Steel and the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure, the Government organisation concerned with the protection of key UK assets and our Critical National Infrastructure. The Awards ceremony took place on 7 June at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, where the ‘Security in the Public Realm Award’ was presented to the winners, the National Counter Terrorism Security Office, for its publication ‘Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Guide.
